| Welcome
to the Mellieha Scout Group's website! Hello
colleagues, We
are very proud to introduce our Scout Group and give general information
about its re-establishment after more than fifty years from it's first
founded in 1938, which was suspended during the Second World War. The
Mellieha Scout Group was officially re-opened on the 22nd
December 1991, thanks to the former Group Scout Leader Capt. Norman
D'Amato; the former parish priest Fr. Alfred Camilleri; the current
Group Scout Leader Arthur Abela and many other laymen who gave a helping
hand to establish this noble philanthropic group in our picturesque
village of Mellieha. Later
on the 28th December 1991, the government of Malta, through
the Lands Department, allowed us to use and restore the British Fort
of Mellieha that, during the Second World War, had an essential role
and was used as an observation post (O.P.). Today we are proud to
say that we have the biggest headquarters on the island.
During the year we welcome
several local and foreign Scout groups which spend a week or more
camping as part of their scouting activities.
The premises are well equipped with kitchen/sanitary facilities,
dormitories and campsite. There are also some interesting underground
shelters and amongst all, the lovely views of Mellieha Bay and its
surroundings. The fort is located on the highest point of Mellieha
and recently, it is being surrounded by new residential buildings,
where most of our members live. |
